As the first Silk Spectre, Sally Jupiter used physical strength and agility as well as her feminine wiles to bring down criminals.

Sally Jupiter was a burlesque dancer who became a costumed crime fighter for publicity to advance her modelling career. Since she was the only costume hero of the day whose contact information was readily available, she was the first independent hero approached by Captain Metropolis to join him in forming the Minutemen.

She was romantically linked with Hooded Justice, also for publicity reasons, before leaving the Minutemen to marry her manager, Laurence Schexnayder.

Her sexual assault by The Comedian left her with many unresolved issues that continued to plague her throughout her life. However, she remained friends with the other Minutemen long after the group disbanded.

Her relationship with her daughter, Laurie, has been strained largely due to her molding Laurie into a costume hero in her own image.
